At a recent press club address Abbott called on the media to be ready to give his government "more credit where it is due". I think Tony Dumb Dumb is wrong... people are ready to give him credit where it is due... there is just nothing he has achieved which is worthy of credit... Abbott is so far in the Red that he may never receive any kind of credit.
An online poll in the Age asked the question 'Has the media been too critical of Abbott' - and of more than 8500 respondents, 94% said NO.
So... well done Dumb Dumb.
But on outcomes that matter when you are in government, or when you are PM... nothing to congratulate.
- The two royal commissions - the Home insulation RC was set up to punish Kevin Rudd and a number of former government ministers, and the Union RC seems to have been set up to punish Gilliard for the Misogyny Speech. It didn't work according to Jonathan Green and Lenore Taylor, among others
- The slump in consumer confidence (despite being promised the opposite when the Coalition was elected) - it has fallen by 20% among the groups Abbott and Hockey have targeted in the budget - the poor, renters, and Labor voters
- The Cash for Questions revelations - which illustrated how vacuous Abbott is and how much influence money buys you at the highest levels of the Liberal party
- Our appalling record on Border protection and the truth about how poor our international record is on accepting refugees
- The rorting of 457 visas, enabled by Scott Morrison
- The reluctance of Abbott to let go of his stupid 'Team Australia' rhetoric
But it isn't all bad news.
- Abbott remains consistently behind on the polls, despite banging the war drum with all his might.
- The Coalition has also seen a significant and sustained deterioration in its primary support
- According to a recent Reachtel poll - Campbell Newman will be annihilated at the next election in the seat of Ashgrove
- Abbott seems to be hiding the facts around the renunciation of his British citizenship... you can help force Abbott to tell the truth about this matter (which goes to the heart of whether he was elected to parliament legitimately) by signing this petition
People clearly see through Abbott and his incompetent government, despite the gentle treatment they get in the media. Which makes Abbott's recent call for more of a media cheer squad almost incomprehensible... don't you see Dumb Dumb... they're cheering for your 'Team Australia' as hard as they can... but no one is listening.
